Post Workout Nutrition

What do you do immediately after finishing a workout?

If your answer isn't "I immediately initiate my post workout nutrition regimen," then don't expect all the hard work that you just did to be as effective as it could be.

As pointed out in this article, Feed your Muscles, there are many disagreements on exactly what your overall muscle building diet should contain. But one thing no one disagrees on is that what you consume (or don't consume) directly after your workout can have a major impact on your muscle building results.

If you are the guy who chugs a little water, leaves the gym and only a few hours later gets around to giving your body a little fuel, you aren't alone. If you want all that hard work you just completed to have maximum effect, you should change your ways.

My favorite line from the above article:
"These organizations are catching on to what many trainers and body builders have known for years--that no matter what your age, regular strength training builds up more than just muscles; it builds a healthier body."

By "organizations" the article is referring to American College of Sports Medicine and the American Heart Association. It proves true over and over again, serious bodybuilders map the course of fitness/health for the mainstream. If you want to know what the mainstream fitness advice of tomorrow will be, simply watch what the serious natural trainers are doing today.

The reason? Serious trainers pay close attention to all the variables that affect them. They track everything they do. They don't have hidden agendas, they simply want to improve themselves. It's a much quicker way to determine what is best than waiting on the results of multiple placebo-controlled, double-blind studies.
